Guide

Everything PingDrop can do.

Every feature, free and Pro, and exactly where to find it on your phone and your Mac. Lots of it works without ever opening the app.

47 free features16 more with Pro
1Get both apps

PingDrop for Android from Google Play, and PingDrop for Mac from this website (macOS 14 or later). On the phone, About › PingDrop for Mac sends you the link.

2Pair them

On the Mac: menu bar › Pair New Phone. On the phone: Get started › Scan the QR — with PingDrop, not the camera app.

3Allow when asked

Notification access on the phone; Local Network and Bluetooth on the Mac. That's it — they find each other from now on.

Free

Everything here comes with PingDrop at no cost, on both your phone and your Mac.

Connection

How your phone and Mac find each other — and stay connected.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, automatically

On the same Wi-Fi everything runs at full speed. Away from it, Bluetooth keeps notifications, calls and the clipboard working. PingDrop switches by itself.

  • Nothing to set up — see which one is in use on the Mac card (phone) and the badge in the menu bar (Mac)

Works on your phone's hotspot

No shared Wi-Fi? Connect your Mac to your phone's hotspot and PingDrop uses it at full speed. Wi-Fi without internet works too.

  • MacWi-Fi menu›your phone's hotspot

Fixes itself

After a Wi-Fi drop, your Mac sleeping, or Bluetooth going off and on, PingDrop reconnects on its own. While the Mac sleeps, the phone waits instead of draining either battery.

  • PhoneHome›Mac card›⋯›Reconnect— if you ever want to nudge it

Why it's on Bluetooth only

When Wi-Fi isn't connecting, PingDrop tells you why — different networks, Local Network switched off, and so on.

  • MacMenu bar›the ⓘ next to the Bluetooth badge— hover for the reason, click for the fix

Gets along with other apps

If another app on your phone or Mac is using what PingDrop needs, it picks another way in by itself.

  • Automatic

Pairing with a QR code

Pair once and they find each other from then on. Codes expire after 2 minutes, for safety, and each step is shown on both sides.

  • MacMenu bar›Pair New Phone
  • PhoneGet started›Scan the QR— or Home › Mac card › ⋯ › Re-pair

Private by design

No account, no sign-in, no cloud. Your phone talks straight to your Mac, encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a key that only your two devices have.

  • Always on

Starts with your Mac

PingDrop opens at login, so your phone can reconnect after a restart without you opening anything.

  • MacPreferences›Startup›Launch PingDrop at Login

Only your Mac

Connects only to the Mac it was paired with — even with another PingDrop Mac nearby or on the same Wi-Fi.

  • MacAutomatic— pairing again with the QR code moves it to another Mac

Notifications

Your phone's notifications, on the Mac you're already looking at.

Notifications on your Mac

Messages, calls and alerts appear as real macOS notifications, with each app's own icon.

  • PhoneSettings›Notifications›Notification Sync

Calls

See who's calling and handle the call without picking up your phone.

Answer calls on your Mac

A call card shows who's calling. Answer, decline, mute, switch to speaker or end the call from there. You still talk on the phone.

  • PhoneSettings›Calls›Calls on your Mac

WhatsApp and other app calls

Calls from WhatsApp and similar apps show up on the Mac too.

  • PhoneSettings›Calls›Answer WhatsApp & other app calls

Outgoing and missed calls

Calls you make show “Calling…” and then a timer. A call you didn't pick up leaves a “Missed call” on the Mac.

  • Automatic

Works on more phones

On some phones Android needs one extra permission for the Answer button to work every time.

  • PhoneSettings›Calls›Display over other apps›Allow

Answer and end with any phone app

Allow Phone calls once and answer, decline or end calls from your Mac, whatever phone app you use. Google's Phone app gives the most controls — mute and speaker too.

  • PhoneSettings›Calls›Answer and end calls from your Mac›Allow
  • MacCall card›Allow on phone— when a call can't be answered from the Mac yet

Close the call card, keep the call

× hides the card and the call carries on — it sits in the menu bar with its timer. Click it for End, Mute or Speaker.
